Suffer not yet our eyes to hunger for your face.

Kahlil Gibran
About This Quote

Suffer not yet our eyes to hunger for your face. Shakespeare wrote in "Henry IV," Part II, "Our eyes do hunger for thy face" when he was looking at his eldest son, Henry V, who had been lost at sea. He was referring to the pain of loss and also to the desire for human contact that drove his sons into war. When we want to know who someone is, we look at their face.

When we want people to stop hurting us, we have to show them that our suffering has made us stronger. We have to show them that our suffering has made us a better person in order to get them to stop hurting us.
